Ways to Incorporate Prayer into Your Daily Life

Throughout my busy life and inconsistent schedule, I struggled to find a good prayer routine. I have learned that prayer can take place anytime and anywhere. Now, I pray in a variety of ways. I journal my prayers, go on prayer walks around campus, pray when I drive and even when I’m working out.

Journaling

A great way to reflect and spend time with God in prayer is through journaling. It can be therapeutic to get all your thoughts out of your head and onto a page. This is one of my favorite ways to pray and whenever I sit down to do it, I find myself unable to stop writing. Write about what you are thankful for, what you are struggling with and anything that going on in your life. God cares about every thought, every worry. If you are struggling to figure out how to start, journal prompts can be a helpful guide.

Prayer walks

Prayer walks are a great way to limit distractions and be out in God’s creation. You don’t need to be in a scenic location to go on a prayer walk. Make this time strictly yours and God’s. As you walk either pray out loud or in your mind. Prayer walks can be however long you would like. Let God direct your path and your thoughts during this time. Bring whatever comes to mind directly to Him.

During your commute

Something as simple as your commute to work or school can become a routine, treasured time with the Lord. Life is busy and during certain seasons, your only alone time may be your commute. Spend time talking to God and maybe even put some worship music on in the background. Focusing on His presence can help prepare you for the day ahead.

Working out

Running, lifting, biking, hiking, and really anything of the sort can be prayer time. Devoting time to work out is one thing but what if you combined it with a bit of prayer. It could be the chance to check in and take your mind off the events of the day.

God isn’t concerned with where or for how long you pray. He just wants you to spend time with Him, read His word and continue to grow in relationship. Prayer time could be driving to work, training for your half marathon or anything in between.
